CLEVELANDURBANNEWS.COM, LOUISVILLE, Kentucky- In spite of a muddy track following the rainiest Derby in history, the undefeated Justify, a 5-2 favorite, won the 144th Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky. on Saturday, the first leg of the American Triple Crown.

Commenting on the coveted race horse trainer Bob Baffert, who racked up his fifth Derby win, told reporters after the race that "he was doing it easy."

It was the second Derby win for jockey Mike Smith, 52, who rode his horse to victory before a crowd of 157,813 people.

Good Magic followed Justify, winning second place, and Audible came in third

The $2 exacta paid $69.60, the $1 trifecta produced $141.40, and the $1 superfecta brought $19,618.20.

The Kentucky Derby, held annually at Churchill Downs in Louisville, is always the first Saturday in May, with the Preakness in Baltimore, Maryland held two weeks later, and the Belmont Stakes in Elmont, New York three weeks after that, but never before June 5 or after June 11 for the Belmont Stakes.

Winning all three legs, the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness and Belmont Stakes, will bring a Triple Crown.
