CLEVELANDURBANNEWS.COM-CLEVELAND, Ohio- Supporters of Cuyahoga County Court of common pleas judicial candidate Andrea Nelson Moore, who is Black and endorsed by the county Democratic party, among others, will host a fundraising prayer breakfast for Moore on Saturday, March 10, 2018 from 9 am to noon at the Holy Trinity Cultural Arts Center in Cleveland, 7209 Woodland Avenue.

The keynote speaker is Dr. Sabrina J. Ellis.

If elected to the general division common pleas court of Cuyahoga County, which hears felony cases and civil lawsuits with damages sought above $15,0000, among other legal matters, Moore will be among 34 largely White judges, only two of them currently on the bench of whom are Black (Judges Shirley Strickland Saffold and Cassandra Collier- Williams).

Moore is running in a two-way race relative to the Democratic primary. She lost to Common Pleas Judge Joan Synenberg, a Republican, as a Democratic candidate in a close general election in 2016.

The winner of the Democratic primary election, which is May 8, faces lawyer Bradley Hull IV, a Repulican, in the upcoming general election Nov 6.

Cuyahoga County, which includes the city of Cleveland and is roughly 29 percent Black, is Ohio's second largest of 88 counties statewide, behind Franklin County, which includes Columbus.

Data show that Blacks are disproportionately indicted, prosecuted, convicted and sent to prison in large numbers in Cuyahoga County, many of them poor and without adequate legal representation.
