WASHINGTON, D.C.-President Joe Biden on Sunday pardoned his son Hunter Biden for prior, current, or future criminal charges and convictions, a 10-year full and  unconditional pardon that President-Elect Donald Trump quickly branded "a miscarriage of justice."

First Lady Dr Jill Biden, who helped to raise Hunter and his late brother Beau Biden after their mother and a sister were killed in a car accident when Biden was a junior U.S. senator representing the state of Delaware, applauded the move and told reporters "Of course I support my son."

Biden had repeatedly promised that he would not pardon his son but said Sunday that he did so in part because Congress targeted Hunter to get at him.

"No reasonable person who looks at the facts of Hunter’s cases can reach any other conclusion than Hunter was singled out only because he is my son — and that is wrong," Biden said in a statement.

Hunter Biden was scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 12 for his conviction on federal gun charges. He also was set to be sentenced on Dec. 16 in a separate criminal case in which he pleaded guilty to federal tax evasion charges in September.
