CLEVELAND, Ohio-Women's March Cleveland has announced its keynote speakers for a local march to the national women's march that will be held on Oct 8, 2022 at 1:30pm at Market Square Park at West 25th Street and Lorain Ave near downtown Cleveland across from the Westside Market. Keynote speakers are state Sen Nickie Antonio, lt governor Democratic nominee Cuyahoga County Councilwoman Cheryl Stephens, Ohio attorney general Democratic nominee state Rep Jeff Crossman, and community activists Genevieve Mitchell and Sandra Hardwick, whose daughte, Vritney Hardwick, 22, was murdered in a car in the family's home driveway two years ago in the Cleveland's Collinwood neighborhood with the assailant still at large.
Cuyahoga County poet laureate Honey-Bell Bey is also scheduled to perform at the event.
Oct 8 is a national day of action for women. Currently, Women's March Cleveland has the largest sister march in the country for Oct 8 on FACEBOOK, according to Facebook event pages for the events.
Abortion access and voting are the primary focus of the event, organizers said. Other issues include domestic violence rape, murder, racism, sexism, education, jobs, equal pay, climate change, health care, and immigration and police reform. The fight for women in Iran and other parts of the world who are fighting for freedom and equity across the board will also be addressed at the rally and march, activists said, coupled with a special presentation for women in Iran who are currently on the frontline for freedom, justice, and equality for women.
Community activist groups endorsing Women's March Cleveland's aforementioned Oct 8 event include International Women's Day March Cleveland, Imperial Women Coalition, Carl Stokes Brigade, Brickhouse Wellness Center, March For Our Lives, Laura Cowan Foundation, Black Women's PAC of Ohio and Greater Cleveland, National Congress of Black Women of Greater Cleveland, Standup4AbortionRights, Sista to Sista, Justice For Britney Hardwick, members of the Cuyahoga Democratic Women's Caucus the Poor People's Campaign, and more.
