CLEVELAND URBAN NEWS.COM-Cleveland, Ohio-Cuyahoga County Domestic Relations Court Judge Tonya R. Jones (pictured), a former juvenile court magistrate and Cleveland Ward 1 resident, and the first Black to win a seat on that court, will be sworn in at 4:30 pm on Friday, January 13, 2017 at the Rotunda of the Old Courthouse in Cleveland, 1 Lakeside Avenue.

A Democrat, Jones won the seat in the November election against Republican Janet Rath Colaluca , who was appointed by Gov John Kasich to the Cleveland Municipal Court on April 12, 2016 to fill the vacancy left by the departure of Judge Angela Stokes, a Democrat and a daughter of the late former 11th congressional district congressman Louis Stokes.

The swearing-in event is free and open to the public, and a reception will follow.

Cuyahoga County is the largest of 88 counties statewide and is roughly 29 percent Black. It also includes the largely Black major metropolitan city of Cleveland.
