CLEVELAND URBAN NEWS.COM- CLEVELAND, Ohio- The City of Cleveland has publicized the names and organizations of protesters that have been given permits regarding the four-day Republican National Convention that begins in Cleveland, Ohio on Monday, July 18. (READ THE FULL LIST BELOW)
Not all applicants received permits, which were issued in accordance with a city ordinance adopted by Cleveland City Council, and the deadline has passed to apply.
Thousands of demonstrators are expected to participate in some shape or form, some via a speaking platform on Public Square, others at city-designated park facilities, also in downtown Cleveland, and most relative to the city's official parade route.
Some but not all of the protesters are supporters of either Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump, the presumptive nominees for the Democratic Party and Republican Party respectively.
What is clear is that the protesters want to be heard on issues of public concern, or otherwise.
Permits have been finalized for parade routes, two downtown parks (Perk Plaza and Willard Park) and the official speaking platform on Public Square for the four day convention, the latter as to 30 minute speaking slots, with the largely Black and Cleveland based Imperial Women Coalition, led by activist Kathy Coleman, speaking first on Public Square, followed by a host of others. (Editor's note: The Imperial Women Coalition was founded around the murders of 11 Black women in Cleveland by serial killer and death row inmate Anthony Sowell, and will also speak at 12:30 pm on Public Square on July 18. The group has over 15 speakers for the two time slots, including Anita Rios, president of the Ohio Chapter National Organization of Women, Cleveland Ward 6 Councilwoman Mamie Mitchell, and activists from the organizations of the Imperial Women Coalition, the United Pastors in Mission, Stop Targeting Ohio's Poor, Sister to Sister, the Carl Stokes Brigade, Naral Pro-Choice Ohio, Black on Black Crime Inc., and the Million Women March Cleveland)
