CLEVELAND URBAN NEWS.COM- AUBURN HILLS, Michigan-The Cleveland Cavaliers, on Sunday, won the first- round of the Eastern Conference playoffs series, beating the Detroit Pistons 100-98 in the fourth game of a four-game sweep.
Round-two will pit the Cavs against either the Boston Celtics or the Atlanta Hawks, who are tied 2-2 with at least two games remaining in that series.
"It was big, it was huge," said Cavs head coach Tyronn Lue of his team's first-round playoffs win during a televised press conference after Sunday's game. "It was a total team effort."
His first playoffs series as a head coach, Lue, who is Black, said that "it was a physical series, it was a great series for us and they tested us."
The Cavs were down 12-3 earlier in the game but outscored the Pistons 28-24 in the second quarter. They led by one point at half time, 53-52.
Kyrie Irving led in scoring with 31 points and had five assists. He scored a half-court three pointer with less than a second on the time clock to put the Cavs up by three points at the end of the third quarter.
LeBron James had 22 points, six assists and 11 rebounds, and Kevin Love finished with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
The team secured 10 offensive rebounds and shot 42 percent from the field compared to the Piston's at 49 percent .
Defense took them over the edge with key help from Tristan Thompson, Matthew Dellavedova, James and Love.
