CLEVELAND URBAN NEWS.COM, CLEVELAND, OHIO- Former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, in a nationally televised speech on Thursday, lashed out at Donald Trump, the potential presumptive nominee for president for the Republican Party, calling him dumb, worthless, and a phony.

"Here's what I know, Donald Trump is a phony, a fraud," said Romney, a former Massachusetts governor who lost the presidential election in 2012 to now two-term Democratic President Barack Obama, the first Black president of the United States of America.

"His promises are as worthless as a degree from Trump University," Romney said of Trump.

Among a litany of harsh rhetoric, Romney said that Trump's domestic policies will lead America into a recession, that his foreign policies threaten the nation's security, and that he's playing the American people for suckers.

Trump, he says,  lacks the temperament and qualifications to be president.

And he called Trump  "a con man and a fake."

Leading up to today's scathing speech, Trump said that Romney is a loser who could not bring home a presidency in 2012, and that Republican voters thus far believe that he is the best fit to take on Democratic presidential front runner Hillary Clinton in November.

Trump, who endorsed Romney for president in 2012, claimed to have  brought millions of dollars into the Republican Party and said that "I am the only one who can beat Hillary Clinton."

Trump said that Romney ran one of the worst campaigns in presidential history,  and that "it was a disaster."

Trump leads his Republican opponents in delegates to date with 319 compared to 226 delegates to for his closest GOP presidential competitor, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio is third with 110 delegates, followed by 25 delegates for Ohio Gov. John Kasich, who has said that he  is looking forward to the primary in the pivotal state of Ohio on March 15, a winner-take-all primary for Republicans.
