CLEVELAND, Ohio-The American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and former President Barack Obama have endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, increasing her chances of beating former President Donald Trump and winning the White House in November as the contentious race for president of the United States continues.
The presumptive nominee for the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden's exit on Sunday from the race, Harris, 59 and also a former California state attorney general and U.S. senator, has become America's Democratic darling overnight and said Thursday that she appreciates Obama's coveted endorsement and that of former first lady Michelle O'bama, a power couple.
"We called to say Michelle and I couldn't be prouder to endorse you and do everything we can to get you through this election and into the Oval Office," Obama tells Harris over the phone per a video of the conversation posted online. And Michelle Obama tells Harris, "I am proud of you. This is going to be historic."
The endorsement from the Obama's, who called the upcoming November 5 presidential election historic, comes a day after Harris secured the endorsement from the prominent AFT.
Addressing members of the AFT, the second largest teacher's union in America, at a rally on Thursday, Harris said she has always supported teachers unions and that she is a byproduct of public education.
She told rally participants that "I am a proud graduate of public education." And she urged unity among Democrats against Trump, saying Trump, the nominee for the Republican Party, and his allies are trying to take the country backwards.
"We are fighting for the future," Harris said after praising the work of the Biden-Harris administration and the president himself.
Whether the national excitement behind Harris stepping up to replace President Biden in the run for president will continue, especially among Democrats, both Black and White alike, remains to be seen with the presidential election nearly three months away.
WHAT HAPPEN TO BIDEN RUNNING FOR REELECTION?
Amid health concerns, low poll numbers, and pressure from key congressional Democrats, Biden, 81, withdrew on Sunday as the presumptive nominee for president for the Democratic Party and urged Democrats to support Vice President Harris in his place, changing the political landscape as the Nov. 5, 2024 presidential election nears. In doing so he handed former President Donald Trump a vibrant and credential Black woman to compete against for the country's top executive job.
The nominee for the Republican Party as of Thursday night, Trump,78, lost reelection to Biden, 81, in 2020 and hopes to wiggle his way back into the White House in November with the support of voters and Republican operatives. He immediately began slinging rhetoric and dogging Harris at campaign rallies, much like he did Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential race.
If she wins in November Harris will become the nation's first Black and first female president.
The Democratic National Convention is set for Aug.19-22 in Chicago, Illinois, and a host of celebrities are expected to participate and join Democrats in saluting and promoting Harris as America's best choice for president.

WASHINGTON, D.C.-President Joe Biden withdrew on Sunday as the presumptive nominee for president for the Democratic Party and urged Democrats to support Vice President Kamala Harris in his place, changing the political landscape as the Nov. 5, 2024 presidential election nears and handing former President Donald Trump a vibrant Black woman to compete against.
The nominee for the Republican Party as of Thursday night, Trump,78, lost reelection to Biden, 81, in 2020 and hopes to wiggle his way back into the White House in November with the support of voters and Republican operatives.
President Biden's decision to withdraw from the race comes following mounting pressure from congressional and other Democrats after his poor performance in the June 27 first presidential debate showed signs of his deteriorating mental acuity and he came down with COVID-19 just last week. He is recovering from COVID at his home in Delaware with First Lady Dr. Jill Biden and other family members by his side.
“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your president. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term,” Biden wrote on his X account.
Democrats must now convince campaign donors and voters to switch gears and back Harris, 59 and the country's first Black and first female vice president.
If she wins in November Harris will become the nation's first Black and first female president.
The Democratic National Convention is set for Aug.19-22 in Chicago, Illinois.

Ohio's JD Vance chosen as Trump's vice presidential running mate....By Clevelandurbannewws.com, Ohio's Black digital news leader

MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin- Former President Donald Trump, the presumptive nominee for the Republican nomination for president, announced Monday afternoon that he has chosen Ohio U.S. Sen JD Vance as his vice presidential running mate.
Trump reportedly called Vance Monday morning to tell him the good news as the Republican Convention began Monday in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Vance chosen for the prominent role to run with Trump over Sens. Marco Rubio and Tim Scott, and North Dakota Gov. Doug Bergum.
An author, venture capitalist and former marine whom Trump endorsed for senator before he won the seat over former congressman Tim Ryan in 2022, Vance, a Harvard graduate, is 39-years-old, nearly 40 years younger than the 78-year-old Trump.
Sources said that some Republicans wanted Vance in an effort to counter Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris in a potential run by Harris for president in 2028.
Trump and President Joe Biden are the respective presumptive nominees for the Republican and Democratic parties with the Nov 5 presidential election nearing.
The nation's first female and first Black vice president, Harris purportedly told reporters Monday that she is more than ready to debate Vance before this year's presidential election. She wrote in a post on Facebook that "Vance supports a nationwide abortion ban and voted to block protections for IVF."
Articulate and clean cut, Vance is not well-known among traditional voters but is known in political circles. He rose to fame in 2016 with his memoir, "Hillbilly Elegy," which documents his upbringing in Appalachia.

Federal judge dismisses Trump's classified documents case on the opening day of the Republican National Convention....By Clevelandurbannews.com

CLEVELAND, Ohio.- Former President Donald Trump (pictured), the presumptive nominee for the Republican nomination for president, won a reprieve from prosecution on Monday when a federal judge in Florida dismissed his classified documents case, a ruling that comes two days after he survived an assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania and on the opening day of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It started Monday and Trump is expected to be nominated for president at the convention this week.
Defense counsel for Trump argued before the judge that the assignment of special prosecutor Jack Smith to the case was illegal and unconstitutional from the start, and thus required immediate dismissal of the case. Smith argued otherwise.
But Federal District Court Judge Aileen Cannon in Florida, who presided over the case involving classified documents Trump took to his Mar-a-Lago Estate in Florida after he left office and was indicted and accused of theft and other crimes, agreed with defense attorneys in a 93-page dismissal order.
“The Framers gave Congress a pivotal role in the appointment of principal and inferior officers," Judge Cannon wrote in her lengthy order. "That role cannot be usurped by the Executive Branch or diffused elsewhere — whether in this case or in another case, whether in times of heightened national need or not.”
Trump is on a winning steak since he was found guilty earlier this year on all 34 counts in a hush money case that accused him of illegally paying Porn Star Stormy Daniels to be quiet about an alleged affair he denies.
Last week the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that he is immune from prosecution for official acts taken as president, putting two other criminal cases in which he is a defendant at risk for possible dismissal. He will face incumbent President Joe Biden, the presumptive nominee for the Democratic Party, for the Nov 5 presidential election, a rematch of the 2020 election that he lost to Biden amid controversy over the election results.

WESTERN, Pennsylvania.-The shooter who allegedly attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Western Pennsylvania Saturday is dead after being shot in the head by law enforcement, all of it throwing this week's Republican National Convention in Milwaukee and the November presidential election between Trump and incumbent President Joe Biden into chaos.
Thomas Matthews Crooks, 20 and of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, was the shooter, authorities also confirming that an unidentified rally goer was also shot and killed by the shooter and two others critically injured. Some rally participants started screaming after the shooting and a few others chanted "USA."
Trump, who was reportedly grazed on the right ear by the bullet but is fine and not seriously injured, according to a family statement,. can be seen and heard by video of the incident speaking at the rally followed by a gunshot, and then shots from law enforcement are fired that took down the shooter. Trump can be seen rushed off stage surrounded by his security staff with blood on his ear and face while he pumps his right hand at the crowd.
The shooter, stationed on top of a building some 500 ft away from Trump, got off several shots before authorities shot and killed him, raising questions about the level of security at the event.
President Biden made a statement after the assassination attempt, decrying the violence and supporting the investigation led by the FBI. Biden boarded Air Force One Saturday night, headed back to the White House from Delaware as pundits quickly branded the shooting of former President Trump an attempt on the life of a presidential nominee.
FBI officials said during a televised press conference after the shooting that the rally scene remains an active crime scene, and that the incident was, in fact, an assassination attempt.
Trump's campaign has said that he will attend the Republican National Convention, which begins Monday in Milwaukee.
