HOUSTON, Texas -Though quarterback Deshaun Watson (pictured) was rusty by critics standards as he made his debut with the  Cleveland Browns on Sunday following an 11-game suspension for violating NFL standards by offending a wealth of women who sued him for alleged sexual misconduct during off-the-field massage sessions primarily during his time as quarterback with the Houston Texans, the Browns defeated the Texans 27-14 at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.

Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski was ecstatic as he joined his players in the locker room after the game and said that he and his team look forward to winning next week's away game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Selected by Houston as a first round draft pick in 2017, Watson, 27, was traded to the Browns in 2022 after being sidelined with an injury and following his problems with women, some 24 of them at least. Until Sunday, he had not played on the football field in an official NFL game as a starting quarterback in nearly two years. He signed a fully guaranteed, five-year, $230 million contract with Cleveland that featured a $44.965 million signing bonus and a 2022 salary of $1.035 million.

Last week he held a press conference on his upcoming debut as quarterback with the Browns against the Texans and only took "football questions." He has settled lawsuits with 24 of his women accusers while also maintaining his innocence and has completed counseling and other mandates associated with his 11-game suspension issued by the NFL.

On Sunday against Houston, the talented quarterback finished 12-of-22 for 131 yards with no TDs. He, however, still managed to lead the Browns to defeat his former team, though sloppy turnovers by the Texans and its quarterback, Kyle Allen, and skill by the Browns' defense team as well as its offensive line bailed him out of a not so impressive debut, pundits said. Nonetheless, it was an outright win for Watson, and his team, Cleveland now with a 5-7 regular season win-loss record, and the Texans a record of 1-10.

"It's  not going to be perfect, especially playing December football," Watson said in a post game interview with reporters, adding that he was glad to have the opportunity to "get my feet wet."

Highlights for the Browns relative to Sunday's game against the Texans include a 76 yard punt return by Donavan People's Jones for a touchdown late in the second quarter  and a  return by Denzel Ward on a Kyle Allen  fumble  in the third quarter that took the Browns lead from 7-5 in the second quarter to 14-5. And linebacker Tony Fields picked off a Kyle Allen pass and returned it 16 yards for a touchdown to take the Browns’ lead to 24-8, a lead they would hold onto in ultimately delivery the Texans their 11th lost this season.

Watson's supporters say that in spite of a mediocre performance, his athletic brilliance was visible in Sunday's game and that he will improve in coming games. Time will tell.

Second-string quarterback Jacoby Brissett, who is Black like Watson, held the fort for the Browns during Watson's suspension as the Browns won their season opener against the Carolina Panthers and lead quarterback Baker Mayfield but lost the season home game opener against  the New York Jets. The Browns went on to  lose six more games before Sunday's win, though they had won four games before sunday's victory against the Texans, including last week against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

CANTON, Ohio — Glenville High school, a school in Cleveland's largely Black public school system that is located on the city's majority Black east side, won the OHSAA Division IV championship title this past weekend in Canton over Cincinnati Wyoming, the first time in the 51-year history of the Ohio High School Athletic Association football that a school in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, initially named the Cleveland Public School District, has won a state football championship title.(Editor's note: The school district will host a celebratory parade and motorcade on Thursday, December 8, 2022 from the high school beginning at 10 am It will be followed by an 11 am victory rally at Cleveland Public Hall where Mayor bibb is expected to speak, among others).

Led by longtime coach Ted Ginn Sr., and with  Damarion Witten at the helm as quarterback, Glenville  defeated Cincinnati Wyoming 26-6 to capture the Division IV state title, .one of seven OHSAA titles up for grabs over the weekend among seven divisions, all of the games played at the Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton beginning on Friday. It was Glenville’s third appearance in a state championship game.

Coming into Saturday's championship game, the Tarblooders had capped off a perfect 15-0 season for Glenville and coach Ginn, a Black coach.

After accepting the trophy on the stadium field after his team's spectacular win, Ginn, in talking to reporters, praised his players and called the win a win for Glenville and a "win for the community."

Coach Ginn led Glenville twice to the state title game but both times, in 2009 and 2013, the Tarblooders came up short.

The first  Glenville High School originally resided at the former Oliver Wendell Holmes school (then The Doan Building) which formerly sat on the northeast corner of E. 105th and St. Clair. It  later moved to Parkwood and Everton in October 1904 due to population growth at the time. The current building was built in 1964 and is located at E. 113th and St. Clair.

Cleveland's public school district, which had nearly 150,000 students in 1963 before the now defunct desegregation court order and court-ordered bussing of the 1980s and 1990s, today hardly has an enrollment of some 30, 000 students. Per state law the school district is controlled by the mayor, who appoints school board members . Before the mayoral control law took effect in 1998 such school board members were elected.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Cleveland Metropolitan School District officials abruptly closed Glenville High School Thursday, Dec. 1, 2022 “because of staff absences.”

CMSD big wigs confirmed the closing action across their social media platforms Thursday morning, including on Facebook.

“There will be no remote learning,” CMSD added, though district CEO Dr  Eric Gordon has not elaborated on why so many teachers would take off at once after just returning from the Thanksgiving Holiday break. Whether the teacher absences are COVID-19 related also has not been clarified by school district officials.

One Facebook participant shot back in response to the closing announcement and posted that "the teachers have spoken."

The high school is located on the city's majority Black east side in the historic Glenville Neighborhood in Ward 9

This is a developing story given that it is a rarity for an entire high school to close in a public school district in a major American city due to teacher absences. Cleveland teachers, most of whom are white suburbanites, work under the terms of a collective bargaining agreement.

The largely Black Cleveland Metropolitan School District of some 30,000 students, formerly the Cleveland Municipal School District and previously the Cleveland Public School District, is a public school district in the U.S. state of Ohio that serves almost all of the city of Cleveland. The district covers 79 square miles. It is controlled by the city mayor per state law and is  the second largest preK-12 district in the state. The school district has 68 schools that are for kindergarten to eighth grade students and 39 schools for high school aged students.
