CLEVELAND, Ohio- CLEVELAND, Ohio- Clevelander and political operative Yvonne R. Grimes, who once ran unsuccessfully for city council in Ward 6 and worked as a big wig in the campaign of Ward 10 Councilman and Jeff Johnson, and former Warrensville Heights mayor Clinton Hall, among others, has died.
Grimes, who also campaigned for 11th Congressional District Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (D-OH), state Rep. Bill Patmon (D-12), and President Barack Obama, died Jan 5 at University Hospitals in Cleveland. She was 64, and purportedly had a fatal heart attack.
Viewing is Friday Jan 9 from 6-8 pm at E.F. Boyd and Son Funeral Home(www.efboyd.com) in Cleveland, 2165 East 89th Street. At 7 pm during the viewing, the Black Women Political Action Committee (BWPAC) of greater Cleveland, which is led by BPAC President Una H.R. Kennon, a retired East Cleveland judge and president of the East Cleveland Board of Education, will do a salute to Grimes, who was a longtime member of the prestigious Black women's political organization
Funeral services are Saturday Jan 10 at Christian Missionary Baptist Church in Cleveland, 2424 East 79th Street, with a wake is at 9:30 am, followed by a 10 am funeral.
"I've known Yvonne Grimes since 1985 and she was loyal, giving, concerned about others, and community oriented," said Elaine Gohlstin," a BPAC executive board member and president and CEO of the Harvard Community Services Center in Cleveland.
Gohlstin said that Grimes "loved community work and will be tremendously missed."
A Democrat who worked tirelessly for the candidates she supported, Grimes also had a career in accounting and housing.

Grimes is survived by three brothers, Joseph R. Grimes Jr., Ralph Grimes and Albert Grimes, aunts, uncles, and a host of other relatives. Her parents, and a daughter, Stacy Lynn Robinson, preceded her in death.
