CLEVELAND, Ohio- Community activists and some families members of victims of Cleveland police killings and other violence will hold an anti-police brutality rally, vigil and march beginning at 4:30 pm on Public Square in downtown Cleveland on Christmas Day, Thursday December 25.
Organizers of the upcoming event released the following press statement:
Countless families will spend this Christmas without their loved ones due to a culture of violence claiming lives. The family of Tamir Rice, John Crawford, Tanisha Anderson and others will spend their first Christmas without these precious members of their beloved families.
We want families across the greater Cleveland area to know they are not alone as the community comes together for a peaceful vigil and candlelight walk for healing and justice. We will use sidewalks designated pedestrian areas.
The 4:30 pm start time recognizes the 4 1/2 hours Michael Brown's remains were left in the streets of Ferguson following his shooting. Throughout the vigil, we will call out the names of victims fallen from a culture of violence.
We anticipate rain and light snow. Please dress accordingly for the weather. Please bring candles, glow sticks, flashlights or illuminating devices for the walk along with your signs calling for justice and healing.
We know it is Christmas, but we can't afford to allow our vigilance to fade. We need you. Please join us and bring your family for this 1 1/2 hour vigil and walk. If you are not in the Cleveland area, please share this invite widely with your networks.
