CLEVELAND, Ohio- Greater Cleveland community activists, after rallying in downtown Cleveland on Public Square today against a decision by a New York grand jury not to indict officers in the killing of unarmed Black man Eric Garner, will hold a public meeting at 4 pm on Saturday, Dec.6 at the Main Classroom Auditorium at Cleveland State University

The event is billed as a discussion on police murder and the New Jim Crow, and to organize for a week of protesting in Cleveland around mass incarceration and police brutality, beginning on Monday, Dec. 8.

The meeting comes on the heels of a scathing report announced yesterday by Attorney General Eric Holder of findings by the U.S. Department of Justice against the largely White Cleveland Police Department from excessive deadly force to illegal tasing and pistol whipping of Blacks and others by Cleveland cops.

Also at issue are police killings in Cleveland in recent weeks from Tanisha Anderson, who was killed three weeks ago at her home on the city's east side by Cleveland police while in handcuffs, and the shooting death on Nov 22 at a public park on Cleveland's west side of unarmed 12-year-old Tamir Rice. Both Anderson and Rice were Black.
