CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio- A bus is slated to leave from the Revolution Books Book Store on Mayfield Road in Cleveland Heights at 4 am on Saturday, Nov 15 for New York City for a speaking engagement and national dialogue later that afternoon at Riverside Church in the Big Apple. The event will be led by Revolution Books national leader Bob Avakian, a devout communist, and African-American scholar and motivational speaker Dr. Cornel West, both vocal critics of President Barack Obama, America's first Black president.
Avakian, 71, also a political activist who was jailed in the early 1970s for desecrating the American flag at a demonstration, and for his aggressive activism against the American government, has been the Revolutionary Communist Party's national leader since 1979. He has written several books on communism, at least one of them against President Obama, and that also demands that Blacks are relegated to the South. This absurd gesture, however, is promoted by Cleveland Heights communist activist Bill Swain, who has lured Blacks to the Cleveland Heights bookstore to try to get them to read passages from the book, published by Avakian in 2011, and titled "BAsics from the talks and writings of Bob Avakian."
West, 61, received his undergraduate degree from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in philosophy in 1980 from Princeton University, the first African-American to graduate from Princeton with a Ph.D. in philosophy.
A former Princeton University professor and a prolific writer, West is best known for his oratory brilliance and his popular book "Race Matters," one of several of his publications. His community advocacy includes activism and efforts in activities such as the Million Man March, Russell Simmons' Hip Hop Summit, and working with religious leaders from different backgrounds, including Minister Louis Farrakhan, Al Sharpton, and Rabbi Michael Lerner.
Swain pretends to be a liberal greater Cleveland activist but has been accused of harassing Black activists and women who are not anti-Obama, and will not do as he says. He allegedly interrupted an anti-police brutality rally led by the Imperial Women Coalition earlier this year so that he could lobby against an indictment of 12 non-Black Cleveland cops that gunned down unarmed Blacks Malissa Williams and Tim Russell with 137 bullets on November 29, 2012 following a high speech car chase that began in downtown Cleveland and ended in neighboring East Cleveland. (Editor's note: One of the 13 Cleveland cops, Michael Brelo, is facing two counts of manslaughter relative to the police killing of Russell and Williams but the other 12, none of them of whom are Black, went free with lobbying before a Cuyahoga County Grand Jury from Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Tim McGinty, and with support from Swain, a McGinty ally. Brelo fired 49 of the 137 shots)
Swain and his friends, like community activists Norma and Don Freeman, who also disrupted the rally at issue held earlier this year around the police murders, allegedly want the 12 Cleveland cops at issue fired, but not indicted.
Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson, who is Black, has told community activists that criminal charges of a felony automatically will get city employees off the payroll and off the job, at least until the case is resolved.
Swain also interrupted a press conference held this year at the Chateau Mansion in East Cleveland by the Imperial Women Coalition to thank Mayor Jackson for hiring Black Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams because previously his law enforcement leadership team, including the safety director, law director, chief city prosecutor and chief of police positions, had no Blacks in a predominantly Black major American city.
Swain spoke to the media at the Chateau, including Cleveland Channel 3 news, and objected to the hiring of Williams, saying diversity in the police ranks does not matter because all cops wear blue and must do as the establishment tells them. But he would not criticize his friend Prosecutor McGinty on camera at that press conference.
Additionally, community activists say that Swain allegedly objects to Black elected officials at any rally, and allegedly does not like the NAACP.
Swain has also allegedly used Black male greater Cleveland activists, including Black on Black Crime President Earnest Harris and its founder, Art McKoy, to harass Black women activists that will not do as he says and that will not support him in his position that the 12 Cleveland cops at issue be protected from any federal or state charges of Civil Rights infractions, or murder or negligent homicide charges.
Imperial Women Coalition leader Kathy Wray Coleman said that she wants Avakian to retract his demand that Blacks are relegated to the South and wants Blacks to see Swain for what he really is, a fraud, she says.
"We call for a retraction by Mr. Avakian, and for Dr West to take a position on a community leader like Bob Avakian demanding in this 21st Century that Black people pack up and move to the South," said Coleman , who also is editor-in-chief of Cleveland Urban News.Com, Ohio's leader in Black digital news. "And for Bill Swain to support this while simultaneously harassing Black women should not be tolerated by the greater Cleveland Black community nor by community activists."
"Bill Swain has no respect for Black women and has cursed me out," said the Rev Pamela Pinkney Butts, also a greater Cleveland community activist.
West is a religious quagmire and Avakian, a revolutionary, though both are guided by a burning desire for unorthodox changes of America's capitalistic form of government, Avakian from a revolutionary standpoint, and West from a religious point of view.
It is clear though that the history of revolution comes from both religious and secular trusts.
