WARRENSVILLE HEIGHTS, Ohio – 11th Congressional District Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) will host the district’s first Agriculture College and Career Fair on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Case Western Reserve University at the Veale Center Gymnasium, 2138 Adelbert Road, in Cleveland, Ohio. This free event, held from 9 am to 3 pm with the congresswoman scheduled to speak at 9:45 am,  is designed for high school and college-age students who may be considering a degree in agriculture or a related field. There is no cost but students are strongly encouraged to pre-register.  Please contact Ariella Brown in the congresswoman’s Cuyahoga County District office by phone (216)-522-4900 or by email at Ariella.Brown@mail.house.gov

Participating universities, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and various agriculture related organizations will provide workshops and information about enrollment opportunities, scholarships and internships available at local colleges, land grant universities in Ohio and other states, and government and private agencies.

“As the local food movement has grown, Northeast Ohio has developed many opportunities for our young people to consider a rewarding career in an agriculture-related field,"  said Congresswoman Fudge." I’m excited about the number of participating colleges and the federal government scholarships and internships that our students can learn about at this event,”

Terry Cosby, the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) State Conservationist, Ohio, encourages students to explore internships and scholarships available through the federal government.

“Students living in cities may not realize that there are great jobs in agriculture and natural resources, including summer internships," said Cosby " I’m speaking from experience because I began my career as a student intern with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, earning money and credit towards retirement even before graduating from college."

Cosby added that " I’m sending several of my staff to the career fair to meet the students and explain what conservation careers are all about.”
