MEMPHIS, Tennessee-Television show "Judge Joe Brown" (pictured) has been arrested and charged with five counts of contempt of court in Memphis Tennessee, retaliation, his supporters say, for his bid as a Black Democrat seeking a primary win to run against a White Republican for Shelby County district attorney.
Shelby County Juvenile Court officials said the 66-year-old Brown was sentenced to five days in jail for contempt after allegedly causing an outburst.
Magistrate Judge Harold "Hal" Horne charged the former TV judge with contempt of court.
Brown, whose nationally syndicated TV show was canceled last year, was representing a woman in a child support case.
The former TV judge, who is also a former municipal court judge out of Memphis, is accused of yelling and repeatedly challenging the magistrate's authority in the case and even addressing his comments to a crowd of people inside the courtroom.
But some political pundits say the arrest is politically motivated and that the magistrate could have simply removed Brown from his courtroom.
At issue was an attempt to embarrass Brown, who is Black, some say.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was jailed for speaking out, Brown supporters said after the incident.(www.clevelandurbannews.com) / (www.kathywraycolemanonlinenewsblog.com)
