CLEVELAND, Ohio-Funeral services for Sarah Elizabeth Massengill -Tarver (pictured), a Civil Rights advocate, lifetime member of the NAACP and mother of Cleveland Municipal Court Judge Pauline Tarver (pictured in judicial robe), are Saturday November 16, 2013 at 1 pm at Antioch Baptist Church in Cleveland, 8869 Cedar Road. Viewing is Friday, November 15 from 5 to 8 pm at Lucas Memorial Chapel, 9010 Garfield Blvd in Garfield Heights.
A retired 25-year employee of World Publishing Company and 20-year employee with Bird Electronics who instilled higher education, community involvement and Civil Rights values in her children, including Judge Tarver, a former executive director of the Cleveland NAACP turned judge, Massengill -Tarver died earlier this week.
She was a member of Affinity Missionary Baptist Church in Cleveland.
She is preceded in death by a husband of 35 years, Henry Tarver, and two children. In addition to Judge Tarver, she is survived by a son, Robert E. Tarver, and daughters Irene E. White, Valerie Woods Glendell (Woody) and Dorothy A. Pitts (Clifford).
Also to mourn her death are grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces and a host of other relatives, friends and associates.
