EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio- The Oppressed People's Nation (OPN) will hold its Second Annual Community Dinner today, Sept 29, 2013 at 5 pm at 15453 Euclid Avenue in East Cleveland. Honors will go to longtime Cleveland Community Activists Don and Norma Freedman, the Civil Corps My Sister's Keeper group, Chef Balfour, and the BBCI Hip Hop Workshop, which is led by Community Activist Al Porter, vice president of Black on Black Crime Inc. Admission is free and dinner will also be served free of charge too. For more information call 216-704-5036.


The Freeman's will receive the Judge Will Dawson Award, organizers said. Dawson is an East Cleveland Municipal Court judge and the brother of FOX 8 News Anchor Wayne Dawson.

 

OPN is an East Cleveland community activists organization with members primarily in their twenties and thirties. The group is led by Ernest Smith and does things like feed the poor, provides resources such as food and clothing to impoverished greater Clevelanders, and stresses empowerment and educational advancement for youth and other community affiliates.
