CLEVELAND, Ohio- Cleveland Channel 3-WKYC News Assignment Editor Danielle Fink (pictured), 48, died in a one car accident early yesterday morning when the car she was driving crashed into a tree near Bradley Road in North Olmsted, Oh. at the North Ridgeville border, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported today.
According to the Plain Dealer, Ohio's largest newspaper, Fink was found dead at the wheel of her car by police at 8:30 am on Sun. morning, Jan 20. The newspaper offered no further details.
Fink was known in prominent journalism circles in greater Cleveland. And as a news editor for one of Cleveland's most prominent local television stations, she decided what national, statewide and local news to report, assigning coverage of breaking news events such as the Imperial Avenue Murders, a celebrated case of the rape and murders of 11 Black women on the majority Black east side of Cleveland at the home on Imperial Ave of since convicted serial killer Anthony Sowell.
Sowell, 53, sits on death role while appealing his death sentence from Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas Judge Dick Ambrose . He was convicted of 82 of 83 counts of aggravated murder, rape, kidnapping, abuse of a corpse and a host of other criminal charges by a Cuyahoga County common pleas jury in 2011.
Fink sent reporters and cameramen to cover news involving the Black community, including last year's presidential campaign in Ohio that saw Barack Obama reelected president of the United States of America, a Cleveland schools levy campaign that voters embraced last year, and the 137-bullets-gangsta-style shooting deaths by a group of White Cleveland police officers late last year of unarmed Black Malissa Williams, 30, and Timothy Ray Russell, 43.
Fink respected the grassroots community too and was not afraid to assign reporters to cover protests held by community activists on controversial issues impacting the Black community from the Imperial Avenue Murders to the Williams-Russell deadly shooting by Cleveland police on Nov 29, 2012.
Funeral arrangements for Fink have not been publicly announced.
