The event was held in cooperation with the Jan. 18 Martin Luther King Holiday.

Previous awardees include the Rev Dr. Otis Moss Jr., Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson, and the late retired congressman Louis Stokes.

Congresswoman Fudge was elated with the honor.

“It is a great honor to receive the lifetime of service award in conjunction with an event celebrating the life of Dr. Martin Luther King," said Fudge.

“Last week, a young person asked me why I chose a path of service," the congresswoman said. "I answered that "I didn’t choose public service and that public service chose me."

She quoted Dr. King, saying that ‘life’s most persistent and urgent question is, what are you doing for others?’’

Fudge said that "I have dedicated my life to serving others." (www.clevelandurbannews.com) / (www.kathywraycolemanonlinenewsblog.com).
