WASHINGTON, D.C.-The Washington, D.C. press secretary for U.S. Rep. Marcia L. Fudge (D-OH), a Warrensville Hts Democrat whose 11th Congressional District includes Cleveland's predominantly Black east side and Black pockets of Akron, a city some 35 miles south of Cleveland, has left her post to serve as an Ohio regional campaign press spokesperson for Obama for America, President Barack Obama's reelection campaign venue.

Laura Allen (pictured) told Cleveland Urban News.Com in a telephone interview yesterday from Washington, D.C. that she will begin working for the Obama campaign beginning next week and that Fudge has not found a replacement for her yet, and she said that she does not know what regional post she will be assigned to but that she has, in fact, joined the Obama 2012 campaign.

"I start next week," said Allen, who said also that she would be relocating to Columbus, Oh. this weekend.

CLEVELAND, Ohio-In the wake of the announcement yesterday by a special prosecutor that volunteer neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman will be charged with second degree murder in the killing of unarmed seventeen-year-old Trayvon Martin (pictured) the Vision of Angels Youth Dance Troop, the Imperial Women Coalition, community activists, the Imperial Women Coalition, clergy, youth, elected officials, the United Pastor's in Mission and Cleveland NAACP and SCLC  officials will go forward with a mass rally for Martin scheduled for Sun. April 15 from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at Second New Hope Baptist Church in Cleveland, 2917 E. 116th St at Buckeye Ave . Proposed through Turner in the Ohio Senate and through Williams in the Ohio House of Representatives, the mayor's proposed state law would negate  the teacher's negotiated collective bargaining agreement in order to dismantle teacher tenure and seniority in layoffs in the Cleveland Municipal School District and, among other provisions, demands merit pay for teachers . Jackson also wants to use  public monies  funneled to the majority Black school district for charter schools. The mayor backed off of a proposal for Cleveland schools CEO Eric Gordon to have authority to fire employees at low performing schools, a proposal initially offered in spite of data that show that new teachers and Black teachers will be the first fired because they are typically relegated to schools with students with learning and behavioral problems ).

Let’s get one thing straight — I love Cleveland-area Senator Nina Turner.  I love her impassioned speeches and I still get chills as I remember listening to her fight against Senate Bill 5 last year on the Senate floor.  And her introduction of legislation to protect men from the dangers of “Viagra” was magical.

Last week Turner and Representative Sandra Williams got duped by Ohio’s education reform machine as the two were all but forced to co-sponsor legislation in their respective houses that would force significant changes on the Cleveland School district, effectively enacting Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson’s “Cleveland Plan.”  Turner and Williams were stuck having to either support the severe changes to the district or opposing the plan and being portrayed as not advocating for improvement in the struggling school district. First Lady Michelle Obama (pictured) held a conference call with Cleveland Urban News.Com and  reporters and bloggers from across the nation to announce the celebration of  the first-year anniversary of an organization dubbed Joining Forces that she and Dr. Jill Biden created that has brought jobs to military spouses across the country, and to recognize 11 new corporate and other private sector companies that have joined the initiative and will bring 15,000 more job opportunities this year alone."

"Since we started Joining Forces one of our biggest goals has been to address employment issues for not just our veterans but also for our spouses," the First Lady said."Arise Virtual Solutions, Alpine Access -- those are just a few, but there are so many other companies who have stepped forward on behalf of our families to lead the way.

A major highlight of the Joining Forces initiative is the reciprocity agreement for seniority on those jobs to transfer from participating companies in different U.S. cities, something that had not traditionally occurred for America's military spouses, mainly working class women, who would sometimes have trouble finding employment at all.
