CLEVELAND, Ohio — President Donald Trump (pictured) visited Ohio on Tuesday, as eight teenage athletes in matching red, white and blue uniforms participated in the finale of the inaugural Patriot Games in Northeast Ohio near Geneva, a three-day national athletic competition he proposed as part of the country’s 250th anniversary celebration.

For three days, teenagers from across the country competed in various athletic challenges, individually and in teams, all of them opting for a share of $250,000 in college scholarships.

The president called the event "exciting" while onstage presenting the scholarships to the winning athletes, a male and a female. He waved to the crowd, and  U.S. Sen. Bernie Moreno of Ohio stood nearby and waved back, among others.

Athletes chanted “USA! USA! USA!” as it echoed through the massive indoor complex before Trump exited to his presidential helicopter.

The president's visit to Northeast Ohio comes as the November midterm elections near, and Republicans fight to hold their majority in the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate.
