CLEVELANDURBANNEWS.COM, CLEVELAND, Ohio-The Cuyahoga County Democratic Women's Caucus, led by chairwoman Cindy Demsey, will hold its 9th annual brunch on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at the Cleveland Botanical Garden with Democratic Congresswoman Lois Frankle, who represents Florida's 21st congressional district, as the keynote speaker and 9th Congressional District Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur of Toledo, Ohio 8th District Court of Appeals Judge Patrica Ann Blackmon and state Rep. Emilia Sykes D-34) of Akron as award recipients
Blackmon, a former chief Cleveland prosecutor turned appellate judge, and Sykes, the daughter of former state representatives Vernon Sykes and Barbara Sykes, are Black.
Other event speakers are Democratic Ohio secretary of state candidate state Rep. Kathleen Clyde, and Rachael Crooks, a Democratic candidate for Ohio House District 88.
Judge Blackmon will receive the organization's trail blazer award,Sykes the legislative achievement award, and Kaptur, the longest serving women in congress and whose ninth congressional district includes parts of Cleveland, the women making history award.
"All of the award recipients are exceptional women, and so are the speakers," said Demsey, also an area attorney.
Rep. Frankel follows Congresswoman Maxine Waters of California, who was last year's keynote speaker.
